Sunny Activities in Jamaica

The first thing that hits when stepping off a plane in Jamaica is the sun’s warmth. The sun is so important to us that the yellow of our flag represents the golden rays. Here are some sunny activities to consider for your trip to Jamaica.

Being out on the water, on a boat, with a drink in hand, might be the best way to enjoy the sun. Runaway Bay and Ocho Rios have locations that offer catamaran cruises. Most of these cruises offer music, drinks, and food or snacks. Some may even offer a few side activities along the way. It can be incredibly hot on these cruises, so it may be best to find a time earlier or later in the day when the temperature is less intense. You will also be able to experience the sunset on those evening cruises.

Keeping cool under the warm sun is something to consider for the middle of the hot day. Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios offers relatively cool water on the skin in the form of flowing falls. Climbing a waterfall is not something that everyone can say that they have done. At Dunns River Falls, a guide will lead the way. Starting down on the beautiful sandy beach, everyone will lock arms as they find their footing and make their way up the falls. While the activity is not too difficult, it does require being moderately in shape in order to climb the small-sized rocks. Upon completion, there is a satisfying feeling of having reached the top.

If a day is planned with more adventure, taking a zipline over the rainforest at Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios may be a good idea. The sights are spectacular as everyone zips high above the rainforest. Guides will lead the way, and they will teach how to safely zip around. There are six platforms and 5 zip lines averaging nearly 100 meters in length.

For those who enjoy sporting activities under the sun, they may want to consider a day of golf at the Runaway Bay Golf Course – just 3km from Villa Sonate. Consider riding the dune buggies 1100 feet above sea level in Ocho Rios for a real adventure. Traverse 980 acres of land and take a few stops for breathtaking views and photo opportunities.

For those looking to find activities in the sun, there is no shortage of things to do while in Jamaica. There are hopefully enough days of the vacation to fit everything into the itinerary.
